These Optimist buoyancy bags are made from polyurethane-coated nylon, making them approximately half the weight and significantly stronger than PVC or PVC-coated nylon bags. Some models are equipped with a PVC non-return valve. This valve is connected to a tube, making it easy and quick to inflate and deflate the bags. The 48 liter bags are slightly heavier than the 43 liter bags, but after a capsize there is much less water left in the boat.

Caution: Do not overinflate the Optimist buoyancy bags. When properly inflated, they should feel soft to the touch. Overinflated bags can burst from the heat of the sun or rising temperatures. Make sure there are no sharp points or objects in your boat that could snag or puncture the buoyancy bags.
